Where words that reflect lives flow freely.

Delicia Smith

Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

It is Delicia Malkia Smith's (aka “Ya Ya”) favorite saying.  She is a professional singer, recording artist, pageant winner, voice over talent and hosts and produces a Saturday morning radio show on www.klasfm.com.  She has passion to help young people and is a former Girl Scout Leader and coaches young ladies and gentlemen competing at Youth Conferences.

I felt the cool breeze kiss my hair,

And imagined that I was somewhere, somewhere,

Beyond the clouds,

To a place where my ancestors stand proud.

From the strong African beyond the sea,

To the mighty Cherokee. I felt the cool breeze kiss my hair,

And imagined that I was somewhere, somewhere,

Beyond the clouds,

To a place where my ancestors stand proud.

From the strong African beyond the sea,

To the mighty Cherokee.

The slaves with broken backs yet unbroken dignity.

To the French and Creole blood that flows within me.

Their extraordinary past has shaped my destiny.

Although their shoes may be too big for me to fill

I too have a story that will continue to be written until my pen stands still

So until then my presence on this earth will be profound

And take my place with my ancestors among the clouds.

The Dark

Deep within the belly of the great beast,

A desire so strong had urged me to feast,

On the physical and not the intellectual.

This compulsive behavior became sensual

It tantalized and tickled my senses

My taste buds danced from the mind altering nectar and lowered my defenses.

I'm out of control

Must continue this fast pace to relieve my soul,

Of the reality I refuse to face!

I witness violence and pain from the human race.

I've seen the fallen brave who protect the so called innocent

But I am weary from the many hours spent,

So I hide my feeling to drown out the truth

Too afraid to look at the proof.

I still love and yearn for the one I lost,

And the many lives that I’ve crossed immediately get tossed,

Because I have forced my heart not to feel.

It is just too painful to be real.

And it is easier to just not deal,

So I'd rather keep on with the physical and not the intellectual.

Until that day I wake,

This cycle I won't break

And now my soul is at stake

Because I refuse to see the light,

The light that breaks through the darkness

And shows me the path of righteousness.

A glimpse of true love that would wrap me up in a blanket of peace.

And all of the turmoil that I experience will cease.

But today it's just too painful to be real

And it's easier to just not deal,

With the feelings I feel for the light.

Now leave me alone to embrace the night.

For there I am safe and barely detected like a shadow.

And will bury my sorrows until tomorrow

Because this cycle I won't break

And now my soul is at stake

Because I refuse to see the light.

When I Met a Stranger

One day when the rain came down,

I felt as if my soul was about to drown,

In my sorrow, there seemed to be no solace,

For the pain burned deep within me like a furnace.

Some sleepless nights I'd toss and turned

Just to have peace was some that I so dearly yearned.

I try to stay strong and put up a proud face

But if only the world knew what trials I try to chase

Away everyday but to my dismay

It reappears to haunt me another day.

But one morning I met a stranger

He was wrapped like the babe in the manger.

As I watched him rest in the land of many dreams

I began to notice the peace that was present in his face which seems

So difficult to fathom

If this lonely spirit who's address resides on the concrete and bottoms

Of cardboard boxes, find a "peace that surpasses all understanding",

Surly I can reduce the stress and personal reprimanding

For all of the my transgressions

And those who had spiritual possession

Of my heart

Time for a brand new start

I let the Almighty One enter in

And I found a new way to begin!

I prepared a small feast, some warmth and financial contribution

Once I gave a bit of the Son to another I found some retribution

For the sorrow that once imprisoned me has loosened its chain

And now there is hope through the pain.

For I am forever changed

Since that day in the rain

When I met a stranger.

*This poem is dedicated to Officer Kristina Ripatti for her great courage.  God bless you and my prayers are with you and your family.*

Courage

When the darkness surrounds you and your soul is near defeat,

Struggling just to reach the sky and suddenly you get knocked right off your feet.

Sometimes you may wonder why life must put you through such a difficult test.

At times it seems much easier to just lie down and rest.

But know that you are not alone and the dawn is drawing near

Take courage as your weapon to win victory over your fear

For your strength and power flows within you, nothing can bring you down!

Your faith and determination is well rooted deep in the ground.

Fight on my friend, be ready for battle and use your sharp wit

You are a winner and remember winners never quit!

Awakening

A new dawn

Zest for life, spawned

The battle over emotional death, won!

Fear, confusion and anger, gone.

The darkness that once imprisoned my spirit has past

The freedom and peace that I’ve yearned for is here at last.

No more running from my fears.

No more sorrowful weeping but joyful tears.

Time to wake up out of my deep, deep sleep.

Forever in bliss that it’s my soul He keeps

Although this journey has yet to end

I know that I can no longer pretend

I have many challenges ahead of me

And I am not certain if all of them I will succeed

But I know that I was given the gift to lead

And that is the force that pushes me to always believe

Cuz all I know is that I was once blind and now I see!
